{"id":12677,"date":"2016-06-29T12:37:44","date_gmt":"2016-06-29T12:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medcollege.edu.gr\/en\/?page_id=12677"},"modified":"2018-07-04T09:12:42","modified_gmt":"2018-07-04T09:12:42","slug":"school-of-education-activities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.medcollege.edu.gr\/en\/school-of-education-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"Activities &#8211; School of Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\">The School of Education organises numerous academic activities with the support of partner schools and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medcollege.edu.gr\/en\/school-of-education-partners\/\">network <\/a>of professionals.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Guest Lectures<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within individual modules of all programmes, the School invites quest speakers from relevant professional fields and the Academia, to convey current professional trends and academic research findings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Open Lectures, Panels and Forums<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The School organises open access Lectures, Panels and Forums on contemporary issues relevant to Education and the society.<\/p>\n<p>Indicative recent topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Deafness: Myths and Reality<\/li>\n<li>Edu-Robo-Tech: Computing meets with Education<\/li>\n<li>Children\u2019s literature: The idea becomes a book and the book goes to school<\/li>\n<li>Arts in Education and Psychology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Seminars &amp; workshops<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with leading academics and education professionals, the School organises specialised seminars and workshops, inextricably linked to the offered programmes of study, aiming to advance students\u2019 professional skills.<\/p>\n<p>Indicative topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drama play<\/li>\n<li>Play therapy &amp; psychodrama therapy<\/li>\n<li>Children rights and child abuse<\/li>\n<li>Refugee children and education<\/li>\n<li>Dyslexia and dyscalculia<\/li>\n<li>Educational technology<\/li>\n<li>Creative writing<\/li>\n<li>Arts and crafts in Science Education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Field Trips<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The School of Education organises frequent field trips to museums, theatres, educational and cultural centres and non-governmental organisations. Students participate in guided tours, exhibitions, class observations, or specially designed education programmes.<\/p>\n<p>Indicative recent visits: Montessori School of Varymbobi, Greek Museum of Children\u2019s Art, Children\u2019s Museum, NGO Preschool Centre \u2018Friends of the Child\u2019, \u2018Smile of the Child\u2019, Cultural Centre \u2018Hellenic Cosmos\u2019, Ianos Children Bookstore, French Institute Comics Festival, Down Syndrome Society, Special Education Centre \u2018Sotir\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Placement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Placement develops students\u2019 professional knowledge and also provides employment opportunities. Both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the School of Education include supervised placement and students are supported by Mediterranean College in finding the suitable practice setting, through the College\u2019s wide network. Students are encouraged to apply for extra placement or voluntary posts, which may be announced by the Career Office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Volunteering<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Voluntary work, applied in a systematic manner in a field related to the curriculum, provides a unique opportunity for students to gain practical experience and improve their CV. &nbsp;The School of Education strongly supports volunteering and students are encouraged to participate in a variety of voluntary activities throughout the year, e.g. Christmas and Easter Bazaar with student crafts, organised activities to support charity sport events, voluntary work at various NGOs (\u2018Agalia, \u2018Smile of the Child\u2019).<\/p>\n<p>The School of Education has established its own student volunteering activity group, the \u2018Fairy-tale Hug\u2019, which consists of BA students, who organise artistic and creative activities to children in need. Recent activities include visits to the NGO \u2018Smile of the Child\u2019, the NGO \u2018Hug\u2019, the Penteli Hospital and the \u2018Run together\u2019 mini marathon in Athens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conferences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The School of Education participates in professional and academic conferences, so that students are informed about current developments in pedagogy and extent their own network.
