Dr Nikolaou Alexander

Dr Alexander Nikolaou holds a BA in English Literature from Deree College, Greece (awarded with ‘senior honors’), an MA in Applied Linguistics and a PhD in English from the University of Birmingham, UK. Dr Nikolaou’s academic teaching experience spans 25 years. He began his career teaching English for Specific and Academic Purposes at private colleges in Greece before taking up a long-term appointment at Hellenic American University, NH, US (Athens campus). From 2006 to 2025 he taught undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral-level linguistics courses and academic literacy modules there, while also serving as Programme Coordinator for the MA in Applied Linguistics and undertaking other academic leadership roles. He has supervised undergraduate capstone projects, master’s dissertations, and doctoral theses. In addition, he has taught English for Academic Purposes at the University of Bristol’s Centre for Academic Language and Development and English for Specific Purposes at the Hellenic Police and Air Force Academies and the National Centre for Public and Local Administration (EKDAA). He is an Associate Fellow of BALEAP (the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes). His research interests include L2 motivation, sociolinguistic ethnography, linguistic landscapes, the discursive construction of identity, and corpus-based discourse analysis.
