Course Information
Mediterranean College has over 45 Years of Experience in the delivery of higher education courses in Psychology and Counselling. The MSc in Neuropsychology is offered in partnership with the University of Derby (TOP 25, Guardian University Guide 2025) and equips students with the theoretical knowledge, applied understanding and professional awareness required for further study or work in neuropsychology and related disciplines.
What you will learn
The MSc in Neuropsychology provides a comprehensive and contemporary understanding of the relationship between brain function, cognition and behaviour. The programme introduces students to the foundations of neuropsychology, including brain structures, cognitive processes and the neurodevelopmental and acquired conditions that affect them. Building on this knowledge, students explore key topics in cognitive and affective neuroscience, such as memory, attention, executive functions and emotional regulation, and how these processes are assessed in neuropsychological contexts.
Students gain practical insight into neuropsychological assessment and diagnosis, learning about widely used assessment tools, neuroimaging techniques and ethical considerations in clinical practice. The programme also examines the clinical applications of neuropsychology across neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia and epilepsy, emphasising case-based learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Further modules focus on brain neuroplasticity and rehabilitation, highlighting evidence-based therapeutic approaches and contemporary techniques for cognitive recovery.
In addition, students develop a strong understanding of research, professional practice and ethical standards in neuropsychology. A supervised practicum provides opportunities for clinical exposure through placements in collaborating organisations, while the programme culminates in a systematic literature review dissertation, allowing students to critically examine current research in the field. Overall, the MSc equips graduates with the theoretical knowledge, applied understanding and professional awareness required for further study or work in neuropsychology and related disciplines.
Why Choose This Programme
- UK Validation and English Delivery: Students gain a UK-validated degree taught entirely in English, providing an internationally recognised qualification without the need to relocate abroad.
- Balanced Curriculum: The programme integrates rigorous theoretical foundations, applied clinical knowledge, and research training, with focused modules on neuroplasticity, cognitive and affective neuroscience, and professional and ethical practice.
- Practicum Experience: Structured, supervised exposure to real-world practice, reinforcing skills developed in the taught modules.
- Research-Led Dissertation: The dissertation component emphasises systematic literature review skills, promoting critical appraisal, evidence synthesis, and research literacy essential for clinical and academic careers.
- International and Professional Appeal: The combination of UK validation, English delivery, and curriculum alignment with global standards makes the programme attractive to both domestic and international students, enhancing employability and career progression in neuropsychology, cognitive rehabilitation, and research.
The programme consists of six (6) 20-credit modules, as well as the postgraduate dissertation (60 credits).
We use multiple learning and teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, discussion sessions, case-based teaching, interactive workshops and lab sessions.
Throughout the programme, you will be expected to take an active role and will be encouraged to contribute to the investigation of concepts in written and oral format. This will enable you to further develop your critical and academic thinking, academic writing and argument building, personal development, reflection, communication and investigative skills.
In all modules, you will be directed to supplementary information sources, to complement the taught material and further encourage independent learning.
Module descriptions
Foundations of Neuropsychology
This module introduces students to the core principles and frameworks in neuropsychology. It explores the relationships between brain structures and cognitive functions, while examining neurodevelopmental and acquired brain disorders.
Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience
This module examines the cognitive and emotional processes of the brain through the lens of modern neuroscience. Emphasis is placed on memory, attention, executive functions, and emotional regulation.
Neuropsychological Assessment, Diagnosis and Neuroimaging Techniques
This module trains students in the principles and practical applications of neuropsychological testing. It covers widely used assessment tools and ethical considerations related to their use.
Clinical Applications of Neuropsychology
This module explores the role of neuropsychology in the clinical management of neurological disorders. Students will learn to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world clinical contexts and collaborate in case-based learning reflecting interprofessional practice.
Brain Neuroplasticity and Rehabilitation in Neuropsychology
Focusing on evidence-based rehabilitation, this module introduces students to cognitive and behavioural interventions for individuals with brain injury and cognitive / emotional deficits.
Research, Professional & Ethical Issues in Neuropsychology
This module addresses research literacy, ethical practice, and the professional role of neuropsychologists. It prepares students for the ethical complexities of clinical and academic work.
Practicum in Neuropsychology
A supervised clinical placement offering hands-on experience in neuropsychological settings. Students complete a minimum of 50 hours and engage in structured reflection.
Dissertation – Systematic Literature Review
This module enables students to undertake an independent research project in the form of a systematic literature review focused on a topic within neuropsychology. Students will identify a relevant research question, apply rigorous systematic review methodologies (e.g., PRISMA), and critically analyse the existing evidence base. The project culminates in a written dissertation of 8,000–10,000 words. The dissertation will not involve laboratory or primary data collection but will require the application of advanced research and critical thinking skills.
We use a rolling admissions policy, so we accept applications throughout the calendar year until all available places are filled. Since this is a course with a cap in student numbers, due to limitations in available placements, we urge you to submit your application in time.
