Dr Ioannis Orfanos

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Patras, Greece, in 2014, followed by an M.Sc. in “Quantum Optics, Photonics, and Lasers” from the same institution in 2016. His M.Sc. thesis was conducted at the Non-Linear Optics and Laser Applications Laboratory (NLOLA) as part of a collaboration between the University of Patras, the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences at the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FO.R.T.H./I.C.E.-HT), and the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Trieste, Italy. His research focused on experimentally investigating the nonlinear optical properties and responses of molecular systems and 2D materials, including graphene, nanoribbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and other carbon-based nanomaterials, under intense laser radiation. He pursued his Ph.D. at the Attosecond Science & Technology Laboratory (AST) within the Institute of Electronic Structure & Laser of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (I.E.S.L.-FO.R.T.H.), in collaboration with the University of Crete’s Physics Department and the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI-ALPS) in Hungary. He works as an Optical Engineer at Theon International, where he focuses on advanced Optronics, Night Vision, and Thermal Imaging Technologies. He is a Tutor at the School of Engineering, Mediterranean College, where he teaches Materials and Manufacturing Processes and Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics.
