Course Information
The School of Health and Sport Sciences at Mediterranean College, in partnership with the University of Derby, offers the Master of Public Health (MPH), designed in line with international academic benchmarks and the evolving demands of contemporary health systems at national and global levels.
The programme addresses the increasing need for highly trained public health professionals capable of responding to complex challenges such as health inequalities, chronic diseases, and the consequences of global health crises. It adopts an interdisciplinary perspective, integrating fields such as epidemiology, health economics, artificial intelligence in health, and global health.
The curriculum emphasises both theoretical grounding and applied competencies in disease prevention, health promotion, and evidence-informed policy development.
Aligned with the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education and professional public health frameworks (UKPHR, Public Health England), the programme aims to develop graduates with strong analytical, professional, and research capabilities, able to interpret data, evaluate interventions, and operate effectively within complex health systems.

Public Health Epidemiology and Statistics
Focuses on the application of epidemiological methods to the study of population health. Covers patterns of disease occurrence, data analysis, and the use of statistical techniques to support evidence-informed public health practice.
Community Health Promotion
Examines health promotion as a central component of improving population health. Explores a range of intervention approaches, from individual to community-level strategies, alongside implementation challenges, sustainability, and collaborative practice.
Health Economics
Explores how economic principles inform decision-making in healthcare. Addresses resource allocation, health system organisation, and methods for evaluating the costs and outcomes of interventions.
Global Health Issues (optional module)
Examines contemporary health challenges at a global level, including the interaction between infectious diseases and long-term conditions, as well as the impact of environmental and social factors. Emphasises international cooperation and policy responses.
Artificial Intelligence in Public Health (optional module)
Explores the role of artificial intelligence in public health practice, including its use in data analysis, prevention strategies, and decision-making, alongside ethical, legal, and governance considerations.
Behavioural Approaches in Public Health (optional module)
Focuses on how behaviour, social context, and inequality shape health outcomes. Examines the influence of early-life adversity on physical activity and nutrition, and evaluates behaviour change strategies in public health.
Research Skills and Independent Study
Provides the opportunity to undertake an independent research project. Develops skills in research design, data collection and analysis, and academic writing. The module culminates in a dissertation assessed for originality and academic quality.
Completion of the programme requires submission of a dissertation, enabling in-depth investigation and contribution to knowledge in public health.
Teaching and Assessment
Teaching is delivered through a blended model, including:

Entry Requirements
The programme is suitable for applicants with a relevant undergraduate degree, a good level of English proficiency, and an interest in improving population health and addressing current public health challenges.
Applicants without formal academic qualifications may also be considered based on professional experience.
English language proficiency should be equivalent to IELTS 6.5 (B2+). Applicants without certification will be required to complete an internal English assessment.
Applicants must also submit a CV, references, and attend an academic interview.
The MPH provides a strong foundation for career progression and further academic study in public health across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Graduates may pursue roles in national and international health organisations, NGOs, research institutions, policy bodies, and healthcare services.
